This year for Spring Break I asked the kids what they would like to do the first few days off of school. They said they wanted one day to wear their PJs all day and get to watch movies, one day to go to the zoo, and one day to play outside and help me in the yard (picking weeds and getting paid for it). Check, Check, Check - we did it all!! And the later part of the week, we spent in DFW visiting family.
Here we are at the SA Zoo! Yes, that is a monkey in Levi's face!! Up close & personal :)
We knew we were going to go to the Dallas Zoo with Mimi & Pops too, so Katelyn brought a notebook to write down all the animals she saw and then did the same in Dallas to compare and contrast. All on her own accord!
Kyler loves Lion Guard & Lion King right now, so he really wanted to see the lions....although once we got there, he was not impressed & more interested in his snack.
On Thursday we started our drive up to Carrollton, but stopped for a few hours to visit with Cindy & Drew at a park in Austin. It was an All Abilities Park and had lots of things Drew could do too, like this awesome wheelchair swing. I think he loved this!
They also had a miniature town with cars like this around he could even drive. Levi also LOVED this part of the park.
Play that funky music wild thing...er, I mean Drew!! Woo hoo!
Our drive up was so nice and easy. No traffic, extra happy kids, it was probably the easiest drive we've had to DFW! And we didn't even have a DVD player to keep them occupied (the both went out on us during our last road trip), they were just content, it was amazing!
So happy to be with Mimi & Pops....AND their trash truck :)
Friday was Saint Patricks Day, and we started the day with green jammies, green shirts, & green eggs & green buttered toast.
We then headed off to Disney on Ice at the American Airlines Center. Mimi spoiled these kiddos with a great show, cotton candy, skittles & lots of snuggles. They had a great time! We saw Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Cars & Frozen on Ice. Frozen was my favorite and the boys....Katelyn won't admit it, because she thinks she's too old for it now :)
See Mimi snuggles are the best.
Then Pops cooked us a traditional Irish meal with Corned Beef, Cabbage, Potatoes, Cornbread & a Green "Adult Beverage" (and the kids got green milk)! Delish!!
Saturday we headed to the Dallas Zoo and I was highly impressed. I've always heard how good the Fort Worth Zoo was & and went many times as a kid, but compared to the Greenville & San Antonio Zoo, Dallas was impressive!! Plus we got 50% off with my SA Zoo membership!
We found a monkey that got out of her cage.....lol!
Bluebonnets!! We are still searching for a good spot to take bluebonnet pictures this year!! So this will have to do for now!
And our climber, found a new trick!
Making ice cream with Mimi!
On Sunday we went to lunch with Shane & his family, then to my cousin, Ali's, wedding shower that afternoon, with it being so late we decided it would be best to drive home on Monday and just keep Katelyn out of school another day. I am so glad we did, because the drive home was more eventful than the drive there. My low tire pressure light came on and I called Lex to see what he thought I should do, he reminded me I have an air compressor in the car & I could just pull over and and fill it up myself. So I exited the highway and then we felt the tire go flat. I pulled over right way into a drive way off the access road and hung out there until the Roadside Assistance guy came to save the day. He changed our tire fairly quickly and then we headed to Discount Tire about 30 minutes away. We had to wait a couple of hours to get a new tire, they were packed! So we walked to Bealls & Walmart to waste time. We got back on the road and I had 3 napping kids and fields of bluebonnets to admire. Although it made the trip 9.5 hours, it could have been much worse if we had tried to drive home the night before. Thankful for daylight and an open Discount Tire :)
