The Southwest School of Art offers free art classes for kids on Saturday mornings thats free, so obviously it fills up fast. This past summer, I signed the kids up to go in March, no knowing if we would even have the time to do it and I am so glad I did. They had the best experience. It's located in downtown San Antonio in an old Catholic School, that Lex figured out his great grandmother may have attended (I believe). Anyway, the place has a ton of character and the kids were able to do some many things they had never done before.
Here they made pottery....Katelyn & I made vases & Levi made a car. On the last Saturday of March, we painted them, but I haven't taken a picture of the final results. This was probably their favorite activity.
They painted with real watercolors on real watercolor paper.
They designed, drew, & cut out a screen print that was then transferred to a shirt for them to keep.
They made origami!
They even weaved their own bracelets. Surprisingly, this was one of Levi's favorites.
But Katelyn thought it took too long, so Daddy jumped in to help finish hers up :)
Finished product!
Day 2 of working with clay. This is a pancake with a whip cream face :)
Even Kyler was allowed to play a little hear. Technically they are supposed to be 5 to participate :)
And the last project they did was Paper Quilling. This was Katelyn's favorite (other than they clay) and Levi had a pretty tough time with it. It took a lot of fine motor skills.
We'll have to do this again in a few years when Kyler can participate and Katelyn is old enough to do the pin hole photography session. You have to be at least 8 for that one. I was so impressed though, especially that they do this all for free:)
