Road Trip 2022 - Day 3

We headed north on Day 3 into Colorado! We had a hotel reserved in Pueblo, CO but along the way we stopped at The Great Sand Dunes National Park. I have wanted to see sand dunes for years after hearing about it from friends and it definitely didn't disappoint. Although getting there was definitely out of our way, we would highly recommend it to anyone driving through the area.

We rented sand boards from a shop right outside the park. They were a blast, but also a great workout. Once you slide down, you have to climb back up the sand dune. Whew! Next time, since we've already boarded here, we'll skip the boards and hike to the top!

After our day at the dunes, we headed over to Pueblo, CO. It was the 4th of July and I had read online they were having a festival on their Riverwalk and a fireworks display. Unfortunately, the fireworks show was cancelled due to supply issues, but we headed into town to check out the Riverwalk anyway. Our hotel was in walking distance but once we started walking we realized they had a pretty high population of homeless people and we heard a protest in the distance. As we got closer, we realized that they were pro-choice protesters and were circling the 4th of July festival making the whole atmosphere not our cup of tea. We opted to head back to our car and drive to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. These kiddos thought it was hilarious we were eating at "Texas" Roadhouse in Colorado, especially since they had never eaten at one themselves!

The many faces of Levi:

And we ended the night with a full double rainbow in the Walmart parking lot! God's promises give us everything we need!

***Only a few hiccups on our road trip so far:

1 - Lex forgot his wallet at our house in Poth, whoops!
2 - Our check engine light came on - but miraculously went off after some fiddling with it and lots of YouTube searches, it's been fine ever since.
3 - Levi got hives for the first time in his life that spread all over and Benadryl wasn't helping, so we found a great Urgent Care that took great care of him.
4 - Lex thought he lost his passport (luckily he had this for ID), but a hole in his pocket caused a quick scare that ended on a good note, luckily.

Never a dull moment with this crew, but it made for some great memories!
