DC Trip

Lex and I took our first trip without Katelyn this past week to celebrate our 6th Anniversary. With Southwest Airlines coming to Gville we bought tickets during their first introductory offers out of Greenville, so we got a great deal. My parents graciously offered to come watch Katelyn for us, so we could celebrate. I was imagining a warm, sunny spring break walking the streets of DC and enjoying the Cherry Blossoms...unforuntately the whole time we were there it was rainy and cold, yuck. But we managed to make the best of it and see a lot of great sites & eat a lot of great food! Here are some of the fun things we got to do.

One night we met up with The Sligh's, who are from Pleasanton and have been in DC for the past 2+ years. They met us at the Metro and drove us out to Old Town Alexandria, of which we probably wouldn't have ended up venturing on our own. We ate at the Fish Market and walked the downtown area. It was late, so we didn't get to go in, but the drove us by Mt. Vernon (something I think we may have to do if we ever go back) and their house. We are very greatful they had time to spend with us and really enjoyed seeing them.

We wanted to hit up DC Cupcakes (from the TV show), but didn't make it out to Georgetown, plus we heard the lines are super long, so we stopped at this gourmet cupcake place at Union Station instead...Cherry Cobbler Cupcake, yum!

Arlington Cemetary - We didn't do the full tour here, which we may need to do next time, but definitely a site to see.
Cherry Blossom trees overlooking the Tidal Basin and the Jefferson Memorial.

Lex took some really good pics of the Cherry Blossoms, this one being one of my favorites!

It doesn't just look cold in this pic, it was...burrr!

Washington Memorial

Capital Hill

The White House

Inside Union Station

We heard some loud yelling and petitioning going on across the Capital lawn, we headed over and found Dick Morris speaking at a Tea Party rally. Pretty cool to witness, we felt like we were really in the middle of it all now!

On the steps of the capital. Lex tried to get a security guard to pose for a pic with his huge gun, but none the less, they didn't go for it :o)

We hit up as many of the Smithsonian Museum's as we could, our favorite and seemed to be the most popular was the Air & Space Museum. We also went to American History, Native American, Holocaust, and Smithsonian Castle. Along with all the memorials...WWI, WWII, Korean, Lincoln, Washington, etc....I think we hit all the big stuff, or at least tried too.

On our first day there, we spotted these really pretty trees with this big pink flowers. We took a ton of pictures thinking they were cherry blossoms, we were wrong & therefore a little dissappointed once we saw the real cherry blossoms :)

Happy 6th Anniversary!!

We were in DC last weekend. I guess we just missed you. The weather was slightly better but we missed most of the blooms. Your itinerary sounds very similar to ours. I made it to Georgetown but didn't stop at DC cupcakes - the line was very long. BTW I asked about the big pink flowers but no one could tell me what they were.
Glad to see you had fun.
