We traveled up to DFW as soon as the kids were released from school for Christmas break. We stayed at Mimi and Pops' house in Carrollton, although they were not there, it was quite strange being there without them. We missed being able to do our annual Christmas DFW fun with them, hopefully we can next year!
We spent a whole day in Grapevine, the "Christmas Capital of Texas" apparently :) Their downtown is pretty amazing. So many fun photo opportunities, lots of shopping, and of course our main reason for heading up there....The Polar Express!
After exploring around town, we boarded the Polar Express....which was really cute! Due to COVID, we didn't get to drink our hot cocoa and cookies on board, but Santa came around and talked to all the kids, the elves sang songs and told stories, it was really cute! Although, Kyler said he was expecting to actually go to the north pole, so he was a little disappointed in that. Maybe next year, once COVID is over, we can travel all the way to the North Pole. We didn't want to spread any germs up there, we wouldn't want to ruin Christmas, ya know! ;)
After our trip on the Polar Express, we headed over to the Gaylord to check out what all they had going on. We've never been there for all their Christmas stuff, so we thought we'd at least go look at the lights, etc. BUT when we got there we ended up getting sucked into all the fun...LOL! The kids really wanted to do the snow tubing and Katelyn wanted to ice skate, so we walked up to the ticket lady and asked about pricing. We were floored at how expensive the snow tubing was and would have never paid that much, BUT she happened to have 4 wristbands someone else had paid for and left at the desk to for someone else to use because they upgraded their tickets to something else. So she gave them to us for FREE! So we also paid for Katelyn to ice skate, which was reasonable since she was the only one skating. We had the best time and are so thankful to the family the turned their wristbands back in so we could have some fun too!
Back in Carrollton, we watched the airplanes take off and land at the Addison airport. Visited our favorite playground. Climbed the favorite backyard tree. And played with all the toys at Mimi and Pops' house! We even found a few new toys and books Mimi and stocked away! (Noticed the contents of the book Kyler is ready....LOL!)
We had the best little getaway. We focused on family time and not on presents and such. It was a much needed vacay!
