Ag Mechanics 2024

The boys competed for the first time in the Ag Mechanics show during the Wilson County stock show. Lex helped them design, draw, buy materials, plan, build, & stain a custom patio table for our back porch. It's something I've wanted for a long time, so I was super excited they were able to learn something new and be able to build something our family will be able to use for years to come.

The day of the competition, we weren't quite sure what to expect. Our friends, the Moczygemba's let us take a look at their project book from last year and let us know they will need to be prepared to answer a lot questions about their project. We practiced and quizzed them the best that would could, but had no idea the level of professionalism they would need to be prepared for as well. They were expected to stand all day by their project and answer not only the judges questions but anyone that stopped by to talk about their project. There was also a ghost judge that would be disguised that would be judging them on showmanship. The boys did great! It took a few hours for them to truly get comfortable, but by the end of the day they were asking everyone that walked by if they had questions about their table, shook their hand, and proceeded to answer questions. They still need a lot of practice before next year, but this was my favorite part of the project. They grew up so much this day!

We were truly impressed by all the projects and did not think we had a chance at winning. But their (Lex's) design was complicated and done so well, they won 1st place in the All Wood category!! They were thrilled and so proud! We are all looking forward to participating again next year!

A few pictures of the process, in reverse order.
